Advanced aesthetics & skin treatments in Brentwood, Essex
CryoPen® is a precision cryotherapy treatment used to remove selected benign skin lesions by applying a highly controlled jet of cold nitrous oxide directly to the treatment area.
At Derma Aesthetics Clinic in Brentwood, CryoPen can be used for suitable skin tags, warts, verrucas, age spots and other benign lesions following assessment.

CryoPen is a handheld cryotherapy device that delivers a focused jet of nitrous oxide at very low temperature onto a selected skin lesion.
The precision of the applicator allows the treatment to be concentrated on the lesion while limiting unnecessary exposure of the surrounding skin.
The freezing process damages the targeted cells, which are then gradually shed as the area heals.
Following assessment, CryoPen may be suitable for a number of benign skin concerns including:
Not every skin lesion is appropriate for cryotherapy. Any lesion that is changing in size, shape or colour, bleeding unexpectedly, failing to heal, or otherwise appears unusual should be medically assessed before cosmetic treatment is considered.
Skin tags are small, soft benign growths that commonly develop around areas such as the neck, underarms, upper chest and other areas where skin rubs against skin or clothing.
CryoPen can freeze the tissue within a suitable skin tag. The treated area then changes over the following days before the tag shrinks or separates as the skin heals.
You can read more in our guide to CryoPen for skin tags and benign skin lesions.
Warts and verrucas are caused by strains of the human papillomavirus and can sometimes be persistent despite home treatments.
Cryotherapy works by freezing the affected tissue. Some warts and verrucas may require more than one treatment because they can extend deeper into the skin than their surface appearance suggests.
Some benign areas of pigmentation, including solar lentigines or age spots, may be suitable for CryoPen treatment.
However, pigmented lesions must be approached carefully. We will not treat a mole or suspicious pigmented lesion unless it has been appropriately assessed and confirmed as suitable for treatment.
The image below shows an example of a CryoPen treatment result. Individual results vary depending on the type, size and depth of the lesion and how your skin heals.

Before treatment, we assess the lesion and discuss how long it has been present, whether it has changed and whether CryoPen is an appropriate option.
If there is any uncertainty about the nature of a lesion, treatment will be postponed and medical assessment may be recommended.
The CryoPen applicator is positioned directly over the lesion and delivers a short, controlled freeze.
Treatment time varies according to the type, size and depth of the lesion. Many individual lesions can be treated within seconds, although deeper or more resistant lesions may require a longer freeze or further treatment sessions.
Immediately following treatment, the area may appear red or swollen. A blister, darker patch or small scab can develop as part of the normal healing process.
It is important not to pick or remove the healing skin prematurely. You will be given appropriate aftercare advice for the area treated.
The intense cold can cause a brief stinging or burning sensation during treatment. The area can remain tender for a short period afterwards.
Most individual treatments are very quick, but sensitivity varies according to the lesion and its location.
The actual freezing time for an individual lesion is usually measured in seconds. The overall appointment is longer because the lesion needs to be assessed and the treatment carefully planned.
Larger, thicker or deeper lesions can require longer treatment than small superficial lesions.
Some small superficial lesions respond to a single treatment, while others may need additional sessions.
Warts, verrucas and thicker lesions in particular can require repeat treatment because the affected tissue may extend deeper into the skin.
We will advise you what is realistic for your particular lesion following assessment.
The treated tissue usually changes appearance over the days following CryoPen treatment. Depending on the lesion, you may notice:
The treated tissue is gradually shed as healthy skin heals underneath.
Any treatment that deliberately destroys skin tissue carries some risk of scarring or changes in pigmentation.
CryoPen’s focused application helps limit treatment to the selected area, but factors such as lesion depth, skin type, treatment location and individual healing response can affect the final appearance.
Cryotherapy is not appropriate for every person or every lesion. Extra caution or medical advice may be needed where there is:
We will assess suitability before treatment and will not freeze a lesion simply because a client requests its removal.
The cost of CryoPen treatment depends on the number, size and type of lesions being treated.
